Liposomal Vitamin C with Pure Phosphatidylcholine
What is Vitamin C?Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and highly effective antioxidant. Even small amounts of vitamin C can protect indispensable molecules in the body, such as proteins, lipids (fats), carbohydrates, and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), from damage by free radicals that can be generated during normal metabolism as well as through exposure to toxins and pollutants (e.g., cigarette smoke). Vitamin C may also be able to regenerate other antioxidants such as vitamin E. One recent study of cigarette smokers found that vitamin C regenerated vitamin E from its oxidized form.
Unlike most mammals and other animals, humans do not have the ability to make their own vitamin C. Therefore, we must obtain vitamin C through our diet or supplementary means.
Natural vs. synthetic vitamin CNatural and synthetic L-ascorbic acid are chemically identical and there are no known differences in their biological activities or bio-availabilities. Sodium ascorbate is Ascorbic acid with added sodium. It offers reduced bowel intolerance in higher doses because it is less acidic, however when Vitamin C is delivered in Liposomal form bowel intolerance is not an issue.
What is Liposomal Vitamin C?Liposomal vitamin C is Vitamin C stored inside ‘phospholipids’ - microscopically small fat particles which can be used to encapsulate nutrients and medicines.
Phospholipids are easily digested which makes them very helpful in delivering hard to absorb nutrients and pharmaceutical medicines to our cells.
Neither Ascorbic acid or Sodium ascorbate are easily absorbed by our digestive systems, and when we try to take amounts that are just slightly higher than dietary intake levels we can encounter bowel intolerance (diarrhea).
Before the advent of Liposomal encapsulation the only way to effectively administer high dose Vitamin C was to inject it straight into the bloodstream, a procedure known as ’Intravenous Vitamin C’ (IVVC).
IVVC has been used for many years to safely deliver as much as 200,000 milligrams (200 grams) of Vitamin C per day to seriously ill patients, which has been found to be well tolerated.
Vitamin C in animals200 grams may seem like an incredibly high dose but when we take into account that most mammals produce the equivalent in humans of 2 to 13 grams of ascorbic acid per day when they are in good health, and that this increases up to 100 fold at times of disease, injury or stress, these amounts are put into perspective.
Vitamin C in humansThere are over 4,000 species of mammals that make their own vitamin C by converting glucose into ascorbic acid, and humans are one of the very rare exceptions to this rule. As a species, we have had to rely on dietary intake for Vitamin C until 1934, when we learned how to synthesise ascorbic acid from glucose as animals do.
The 4 rungs of the Vitamin C ladder
- Dietary Vitamin C (up to 200 mg daily)
- Vitamin C tablets and powders (up to 2,000 mg)
- Liposomal Vitamin C (up to 10,000 mg)
- Intravenous Vitamin C (up to 200,000 mg)
Liposomal Vitamin C offers a convenient and effective way to supplement your diet when you are seeking to rapidly and significantly increase your levels of Vitamin C.
Liposomal Vitamin C offers significantly improved bio-availability and eliminates bowel intolerance. Although it costs a little more to buy, it can be a more responsive and even more cost effective option than non-liposomal Vitamin C. This is because your body can absorb significantly more of the Vitamin C in Liposomal form than it can in conventional tablet or powder form.
In addition to using Liposomal Vitamin C for your occasional high dose requirements, you can also use it as a daily supplement.
Lippomix uses Pharmaceutical grade Phosphatidylcholine for their phospholipid source. Their patented* Optimix manufacturing process provides complete liposomal encapsulation during this process.
Their products are best taken without water, straight from the sachet, and are FDA approved for the liposomal delivery of pharmaceutical medicines.
